Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 2, 2005 Meth Watch: Police seek suspect on multiple offenses EDITOR’S NOTE: Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon, in cooperation with the Mail Tribune and KTVL Channel 10, is participating in"Meth Watch," a program intended to combat the manufacture and sales of methamphetamine in Southern Oregon. Each week, Meth Watch will focus on a person wanted by Jackson or Josephine county law-enforcement agencies for delivery and/or manufacture of methamphetamine. David Jerome Hellman is wanted by Medford police for failure to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court on charges of manufacturing and possessing meth and delivering meth within 1,000 feet of a school. He was indicted in December 2004, and because he failed to attend a scheduled court appearance, a warrant was issued for his arrest. In addition to the above warrant, there is a felony arrest warrant for Hellman alleging violation of parole conditions on a conviction of delivering a controlled substance. Bail on both warrants is $20,000. Hellman is described as a white man, 44 years old, 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 210 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and may be wearing glasses. He has upper dentures and scars on his left forearm, left eye and left finger. He may be using the aliases of David Jerome Bryant or Bryant Hellman. The reward is sponsored by Sonitrol of Southern Oregon. In conjunction with Meth Watch, the Mail Tribune is compiling weekly statistics to demonstrate the effects of methamphetamine on our community. Arrests — Eight people were arrested last week and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on meth-related charges. Six were arrested for possessing meth, one was arrested for possessing and manufacturing meth and one was arrested for possessing, manufacturing and delivering meth. Four arrests were in conjunction with other criminal charges. Court appearances — Seven people appeared in Jackson County Circuit Court last week on indictments charging them with possessing meth. Child welfare — The local child welfare office of the state’s department of human services removed four children from four homes last week and placed them into protective custody due to meth use in the family. Addiction recovery — Twenty-one meth addicts entered outpatient treatment last week at OnTrack Inc. Four meth addicts completed inpatient treatment last week at Addictions Recovery Center (ARC). Five people were admitted last week to ARC’s sobering center while under the influence of meth.
