Wohosky leads local fight group LOS ANGELES -- Troy Wohosky, representing Medford's Bulldog Boxing Club, registered the only victory in the ring by a contingent of local boxers Thursday during the opening round of the National Junior Golden Gloves Championships at the Grand Olympic Auditorium. The Bulldog Club advanced five boxers -- four on byes -- into today's semifinals, while the White City Cougars had two boxers advance to the semifinals on byes. Wohosky decisioned Shawn Estrada of California in a three-round, 13-14-year-old, 112-pound bout. "Troy was all heart," said Bulldog trainer Jim Pedrojetti. "He wasn't going to lose. Troy did what he had to do to get it done." Members of the Bulldogs to move on to the semifinals with byes in the 15-16 division were Mike Wilson (201-plus pounds), Ricky Gallegos (132) and Clancy Finchum (119). Alex Trujillo (125) advanced in the 13-14 division. Lorenzo Arenas (165) of the Bulldogs received a bye to the 11-12 finals. The White City Cougars advanced Homero Gonzalez (156) in the 15-16 class and Juan Almarez (120) in the 11-12 division. The Bulldogs had three boxers lose decisions and the Cougars had one boxer stopped. Boone Wyatt, Austin Hernandez and Javier Torres of the Bulldog Club were all eliminated on decisions, while Jeremy Gomez of the Cougars was stopped in the second round.
