The Hawks took the nightcap, 14-6. South Medford (16-8, 12-8 Area 4) came into the twin bill looking to inflict damage on Klamath Falls’ league-leading 17-1 mark. But nine walks and four hit batsmen helped the Hawks score eight runs over the first two innings of Game 2. Eric Mobbs hit a two-run double to key a three-run third inning that brought the Colts to within 8-4. Klamath, however, answered with two runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh to secure the win. Marc Austad had two hits and two RBIs, and Marcus James added a pair of hits. Advertisement In Game 1, Happeny turned a 5-4 deficit around with his two-run shot in the fourth. The Hawks regained the lead with single runs over the next two innings before Zach Wilson ignited a four-run burst in the sixth inning for the Colts with a two-run double. Jared Adamson, Wilson and Happeny each contributed two hits for South. EAGLE POINT 14, GRANTS PASS 9 — At Eagle Point, Sam Birch went 3-for-4 and Ricky O’Callahan blasted a two-run home run as Eagle Point won a non-league game at The Yard. Eagle Point (18-11) scored seven runs over the first three innings and overcame a six-run fourth by Grants Pass that briefly tied the game. O’Callahan, whose homer in the second inning was his first of the year, finished with a team-high three RBIs, while Nick Staller and Kyle Snyder each drove in two runs to go with two hits apiece. Little League Softball DISTRICT 8 TOURNAMENT — Emily McGeary had a two-run double and pitchers Amanda Gardner and Katie Crofton combined to help Medford American to a 23-12 victory over Rogue River in the 11-12-year-old tournament in Medford. On Sunday, Medford fell to Grants Pass, 9-0. Kayla Anderson suffered the loss despite several defensive gems from Crofton at third base. In 9-10-year-old pool play, Sierra Eld belted a two-run double to give the Medford Nationals a 13-12 victory over Rogue River on Sunday. Kylee Nunez pitched six innings for the win and Kimber Bishop hit an inside-the-park home run. Grants Pass routed Central Point, 26-3, in the other 9-10 tournament game. On Monday, Grants Pass took out Medford, 21-7, and Gold Valley scored a 14-8 victory over Central Point. Also on Sunday, Rogue River cruised past Rogue Valley, 16-0, in 13-14-year-old play, while Brookings-Harbor notched a 10-4 victory over Rogue River and Grants Pass slipped past Rogue Valley, 6- 2. Grants Pass will meet Brookings-Harbor today at 6 p.m. for the 13-14 championship. In 15-16 senior play, Gold Valley took a 2-1 lead in the best 3-of-5 series with Rogue Valley following a 10-8 victory. DISTRICT 6 TOURNAMENT — At Ashland, pitcher Kelsie Bartley had 13 strikeouts and drove in the game-winning run as Medford American slipped past Ashland, 5-4, at Hunter Park. Bartley, who finished with two hits and three RBIs, broke up a 4-all tie with a shot to left field that brought home Maryssa Becker from third base. Becker also had a pair of hits, while Cassie Hall pitched well in defeat for Ashland. Medford (2-0) plays again Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Upper Rogue. Golf OREGON JUNIOR STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP — At Woodburn, Eagle Point’s Stephanie Graham is tied for fourth after the first day of the tournament at the Oregon Golf Association Course. Graham shot a 7-over-par 79 and is tied with Sharon Shin of West Linn. Day 1 medalist Kendra Little, of Eugene, shot an even-par 72 and is six strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. Grants Pass’ Justine Hix is also in the mix after carding an 81 to end the opening round tied for eighth with Elizabeth Jarrett of Bend. In the boys division, Grants Pass’ Jay Kirkwood is 11th following a round of 72.
