Gordon a first team Sky A selection By Kris Henry Good athletes take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow in their chosen sport. Any edge in instruction or practice time often makes the difference between success and failure. So its of no real surprise that Prospect junior Sarah Gordon was honored recently with a first-team selection to the Skyline A League Southern Division girls basketball all-star squad. Gordon hasnt had to look far for extra guidance, with the likes of Prospect boys basketball coach Mike Gordon and all-star selections Pat and Zach Gordon roaming around the living room. "Thats helped me a lot," says Sarah Gordon. "Playing with the guys is a completely different level than playing with girls. Not a lot of girls have that opportunity but it can make you so much better." Zach Gordon, a Prospect senior, was a second-team boys selection thanks to his efforts this past season. Younger sister Sarah was an unstoppable force for the Cougar girls and was the lone unanimous selection on the first team. "Shes worked really hard to get where shes at," says Prospect girls coach Don Alexander. "Shes gone to basketball camps and played with her older brothers and elevated her game to that next level. Most girls at our level dont do that." Other first team selections went to Lindsey Stockton of Butte Falls and North Lakes Kristy Robey, Anna Castile and Staci Collins. The first-team selection is Stocktons third straight. "To be selected as one of the top-5 girls is actually quite an honor," says the Butte Falls senior. "Its always nice to get our team up there and recognized." The 5-foot-5 Gordon knocked down 55 percent of her shots this past season, including 40 percent from 3-point range. She helped lead the Cougars to a 16-5 record, averaging 17.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.7 assists per game. "When we were able to get her the ball and she could score we had a much better night than when we couldnt," says Alexander. Gordon credits teammates and second-team selections Addie Stockebrand and Lindsey Acrey with her individual and the teams success. "If I wouldnt have had those two I wouldnt have had the season I did and our team wouldnt have had near the season we did," Gordon says of her senior teammates. Stockebrand, a senior, averaged 10.2 points, 3.6 assists and 2.95 steals per game. "She really held things together and made everything stable this year," says Alexander. Acrey, also a senior, held down the center spot and created openings for Gordon and Stockebrand in spite of her 5-4 frame. Also earning a second-team nod was Elizabeth McLauchlan of Butte Falls.
