Weather has a big role in Britt season Why is the Britt season always between early June and Labor Day weekend? This year it begins on June 9 and ends Sept. 9. I understand weather is a big factor, but it seems to me it could easily begin in mid-May and extend at least until mid-September. The weather is generally pretty good during these times. So, what's the deal? -- Bill F., Medford Well, Bill, there's the weather reason and the contractual reason. Medford got .15 inches of rain in the 24 hours ending at 5 p.m. May 16, .19 inches the 15th and a trace the 14th. And those are the numbers out at the Medford airport. The Britt hillside is usually a lot wetter than the Agate Desert. As longtime residents (and Britt-goers) will tell you, even early June evenings are iffy. Britt's contract with Jackson County stipulates that shows must be held between June 1 and the weekend after Labor Day. In addition, the county, which owns the facility, can rent it out for up to four "shoulder season" shows a year in spring or summer. It has done so in some recent years.
