Can you tell us the name of the banks that may be offering this service, or perhaps another place of business that may be doing this? It has been so helpful. — Mr. and Mrs. Shredder, Medford You know, Mr. and Mrs. Shredder, we love it when people have names similar to what they do. Did you know there's a Mr. Rains at the Medford Water Commission? It's true. Anyway, we asked around and spoke with Mike Jacobson, manager for Rogue Shred, LLC. Since he's the manager for the largest on-site shredding service in the valley, serving businesses from Grants Pass to Ashland and Klamath Falls, we figured he'd know a thing or two about how to help a couple of Shredders such as yourselves. First, if you're looking for a free shredding event, Rogue Shred will be at South Valley Bank, 290 Union Ave., Grants Pass, for a "shred for food" fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30. Be sure to raid your pantry before you go and bring a can of food. "We do this to promote a cause," Jacobson said. If you can't make it up north, you still have some convenient options. Jacobson said prepaid bags that hold about 30 pounds of paper to shred are available during normal business hours Monday through Friday at the Rogue Disposal office, 8001 Table Rock Road, White City, and at American Family Insurance offices in Central Point, Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass. He said they're "very economical and secure" at $6.50 per bag. Whether you drop off your prepaid bag at Rogue Disposal or the insurance company, both locations will store the bags securely until the bags go directly in the shredder. And if you drop it off at Rogue Disposal, they can give you a certified document of destruction. "You're using a certified company and it's 100 percent recycled," Jacobson said, adding that privacy companies recommend using a certified company, and that certification comes from the National Association for Information Destruction. And if you have a large enough shred job, Rogue Shred will come to you for on-site destruction of your documents. The minimum charge is for 250 pounds of paper, so you might want to see if your neighbors need to shred anything before going that route. For more information, call Rogue Shred at 541-779-4161. Send questions to "Since You Asked," Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O. Box 1108, Medford, OR 97501; by fax to 541-776-4376; or by e-mail to [email protected]. We're sorry, but the volume of questions received prevents us from answering all of them.
