PREP TRACK AND FIELD Gillispie, Folsom shine at SWC district Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 17, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted May. 17, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News SPRINGFIELD — South Medford’s Kaizer Gillispie won the 400-meter race, took second in the 200 and helped lift the Panthers’ 4x400 relay squad to a first-place finish, while North Medford’s Halley Folsom captured first in the 300 hurdles, took second in the 100 hurdles and ran a leg on the Black Tornado’s winning 4x400 relay team during the final day of the Southwest Conference district meet at Springfield High on Saturday. The Sheldon boys and girls swept the team titles. The top two individuals in each event advanced, as did those meeting qualifying standards. Gillispie won the 400 in 48.77 seconds and clocked a 22.22 in the 200. He, Andrew Merriman, Miles Moran and Tristan Akery captured the 4x400 in 3:23.53. South Medford’s Caleb Rayburn was victorious in the shot put (50 feet, 11.75 inches), Akery was second in the 800 (1:56.07) and Josh Washington placed second in the high jump (6-5). North Medford’s Tyren Wolfe was second in the 100 (10.90), third in the 200 (22.35) and ran a leg along with Tristen Holmes, Javel Stewart and Cody Matthews on the victorious 4x100 squad (43.10). On the girls side, Folsom’s time in the 300 hurdles was 45.02 and 15.71 in the 100 hurdles. She, along with Jaci Brumble, Sydney Thomas and Savannah Greenwade, took first in the 4x400 in 3:59.48. Greenwade won the 400 (58.29). MWL DISTRICT: At Springfield, the Crater girls picked up wins from Bailey Bascom (200), Cassidy Layton (100 hurdles), Jordan Monroe (1,500) and the Comets’ 4x100 relay team on Saturday as Crater finished second in the team standings to Marist at Silke Field. Other local girl winners on the meet's second day were: Ashland's Hope Baldrica (400) and Kelsey McKelvey (javelin) and Eagle Point freshman Ariana Marks (800). In boys, Ashland's Mel Elshalom won the triple jump and the Grizzlies were runner-up to Marist. Crater's Walter Vail (1,500) and Ryan Davis (shot put) were victorious for the third-place Comets. SCL DISTRICT: At Rogue River, St. Mary’s won the boys and girls Southern Cascade League district team titles at Rogue River High. On the boys side, the Crusaders had 118.5 points. The St. Mary's girls scored 133. The top two individuals and those who meet qualifying standards advance to the state meet, May 21-23 at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. The Crusader boys won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, while Denten Edwards was fastest in the 300-meter hurdles, Scott Richter was victorious in the discus and Hunter Rothfus was first in the high jump. Rothfus’ mark of 6 feet, 4 inches is best in Class 3A. Cascade Christian’s Tim McPherson was victorious in the 1,500, while teammate Jack Boisen won the 110 hurdles and Zach Booker took the triple jump. Rogue River’s Cody Wright was first in the 100 and 200, and teammate Rio Lopez won the 800. On the girls side, the Crusaders swept the relays, while Aessa Catt captured the 100 and 200, Madeline Volk won the 800, Marissa Dobry was first in the 1,500, Meg Vasey was fastest in the 300 hurdles and Sarah Settimo captured the triple jump. The St. Mary’s 4x400 time of 4:10.02 is fastest in 3A and Vasey’s time of 48.74 seconds in the 300 hurdles is second best in school history. Cascade Christian’s Amber Cave won the 400.
