Ashland advances in state tourney PORTLAND - Pitcher Mike Allen held Yamhill-Carlton to five hits in a 7-1 victory for the Ashland Pilots at the American Legion A state double-elimination tournament. The Pilots, who play at noon today against either La Grande or McKay, must win twice to claim the state title. La Grande beat Ashland 4-3 on Saturday. Allen fanned seven in the complete-game win - his third of the season - and contributed to Ashland's 15-hit total with three of his own. Bill Rowe continued to scorch the baseball, going 4-for-5 with a mamouth solo home run in the first inning. He now has nine hits and two home runs in his last three state-tournament games. Kyle Puderbaugh added two hits for the Pilots and helped seal the win with a two-RBI single in the seventh inning. NORTH SALEM 11, KLAMATH FALLS 1 - At Corvallis, Jed Lowrie blasted a grand slam home run to lead North Salem past defending state champion Klamath Falls in the Oregon AAA Legion baseball tournament . Lowrie added a double and finished with five RBIs. Jeff Jensen went the distance for North Salem allowing only one run while striking out five. The North Salem win requires a second game between the same two teams to decide the championship.
