Eagle Point tops Phoenix PHOENIX � Eagle Point scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and knocked off Phoenix, 9-7, in non-conference baseball Friday. The win was the Eagles� first in five games. Phoenix dropped to 1-2. Chris Boyd got Eagle Point started with a one-out walk in the top of the seventh. He advanced to second on passed ball and to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Brandon Willer�s single. Willer moved to second on a fielder�s choice and scored on single by Brian Sands. Phoenix didn�t threaten in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Garrett drove in four runs for the Eagles, one coming on a triple. He had two hits. Sans was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, and Greg Horn was 2-for-4 and scored three runs. Eric Kessler, who had two RBIs, and Landon Rhodes were each 2-for-3 for the Pirates. SHELDON 5, SOUTH MEDFORD 3 � At Eugene, three South Medford errors led to three unearned runs and third-ranked Sheldon defeated the Panthers in a non-conference game. Senior right-hander Matt Skundrick limited Sheldon to six hits, struck out nine and walked three, but shoddy defense did him in. After Sheldon scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning, South Medford pushed across three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Singles by Matt Smith and John McCollum, Ryan Heil�s sacrifice fly and Jimmie Maddox�s RBI double enabled the Panthers to go on top. But Derek Martel�s two-run single in the sixth put Sheldon ahead to stay, and Jason Welch�s RBI single provided the Irish an insurance run. Maddox went 3-for-3 for the Panthers. Farley knocked home the tying and game-winning runs on a no-out, bases-loaded single for Mazama in the first game of a doubleheader split with Crater. The Comets took Game 2, 12-8. Brendan Quirke finished 3-for-4 to lead the Vikings, while Kyle Blank added two hits. Lance Wagner held Crater to just two hits in the complete-game performance. In the nightcap, Crater�s Chris Pettigrew went 3-for-5 and Brian Overstake and Kevin Mulder also added three hits apiece. Teammates Ken Strate and Jarred Maddocks each went 2-for-5 as the Comets (2-1) pounded out 16 hits. Blank and Wagner each had two hits for Mazama (1-2). The game was called due to the 10-run mercy rule. McCormick finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Nolan Roberts and Josh Bellamy added two hits apiece for the Challengers (2-1). Bryan Edwards picked up his second pitching win of the season against no losses, striking out eight and holding Mohawk hitless in three innings of work. Crater sent 14 batters to the plate over the first two innings but could only come away with two runs. Jenni Bittle allowed only three Hornets base runners until the decisive fifth, when Henley had four of its five hits. Kara Ray went 3-for-4 to lead Crater (0-1), while Heather Quinn and Brandy Walter each added two hits apiece.
