Talent police quietly end standoff with suicidal man Photo by Drew Fleming Jason Bowman of Talent is seen threatening to kill himself with a knife in his residence Tuesday night. TALENT -- A three-hour standoff between police and a man threatening to kill himself with a butcher knife ended without serious injury Tuesday night. Talent police were called to a mobile home in the Totem Pole Trailer Park at 812 S. Pacific Highway just before 8 p.m. When officers arrived, the man was breaking windows and holding a 12-inch butcher knife to his throat. Talent officers called for and got assistance from the Ashland and Phoenix police departments as well as the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. A total of 16 officers established a perimeter, police said. Sheriff's deputy Joe Puckett negotiated with the man for several hours. At 11:45 p.m., Puckett convinced the man to put the knife down and walk to the front door. As officers approached, the man tried to retreat inside but was taken into custody by Talent police Lt. Elmer Kammel. The man, 28-year-old Jason Buckley Bowman, suffered a number of self-inflicted knife wounds during the incident. Kammel was not injured. Bowman was treated and released at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford and then lodged in the Jackson County jail on a probation violation.
