Henley spanks Taft, 44-14, rolls into 3A quarterfinals Local roundup KLAMATH FALLS -- Greg Cunningham scampered 57 yards on the first play of the game to set the tone for Henley Saturday in the second round of the Class 3A state football playoffs. When the smoke cleared the Hornets were 44-14 winners. The Hornets picked off Taft quarterback Levi Woodard six times and held the Tigers to 40 yards rushing on 27 carries. Henley amassed 432 yards of total offense with 309 coming on the ground. Cunningham picked up a majority of the rushing load with 139 yards on only nine carries. Nick Thede led the air attack, completing 10-of-13 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Henley's defense was anchored by Brent Parmelee who picked off three first-half passes. Teammate Jeremy Axel also had two picks to go along with one fumble recovery. Henley (10-0) moves on to a quarterfinal game against defending state champion and top-ranked Sisters, which ousted seventh-ranked Estacada, 21-12. TF Junior Olympic Regional Cross Country Championships at Blue Lake Park Saturday. Coolidge, running in the 15-16 year-old intermediate young men's approximately 5,000-meter course. He was the lone member of the Sizzler squad to finish in the top 25 and qualify for the national championships held Dec. 11 in Spartanburg, S.C. As a team the Sizzlers missed out on advancing with a fourth-place finish. Collin Janke finished 26th with a time of 15:47 while David Richardson placed 41st with a time of 16:08 for the Sizzlers. Chris Faudree finished 43rd with a time of 16:11 and Andrew Acklef placed 47th with a time of 16:20. Nate Hoxmier rounded out the Sizzlers with a time of 16:54, good for 51st place. Southern Oregon All-Stars GRANTS PASS -- Medford's Jason Bieghler rolled the table to register his second career Southern Oregon All-Stars bowling victory in a 95-competitor field at Showtime Family Lanes in Grants Pass Nov. 14. Bieghler bowled his way through the entire stepladder finals in the third of eight tournaments this season. Bieghler won four head-to-head matches en route to pocketing the $535 winner's share of the $4,415 total purse. Bieghler opened the stepladder finals by defeating Kevin Rhodes of Myrtle Creek 197-192. He moved past Jason Taylor of Klamath Falls 216-190 and had a huge game to mow down Brian Tinlsley of Klamath Falls 278-244. In the championship match, Bieghler dispatched the top qualifier Blaine Weninger of Bend 247-198. Steve O'Donnell of Medford rolled 11 straight strikes for a career-high 290 game and Weninger bowled a 299 in early tournament action. The next S.O. All-Stars event will be Dec. 12 at Nickel Bowl in Myrtle Creek.
