"We started getting the reports at about 6 o'clock (Wednesday)," said Central Point police Officer Jeff Britton. Most of the victimized vehicles were along Rock Way off Scenic Avenue. The thief or thieves broke out windows and made off with property that included chainsaws, purses and a .45-caliber Ruger handgun. The rest of the cars were hit across town, with most of the stolen property reported as smaller items taken from glove boxes. All the cars targeted in this manner were unlocked, police said. "It looks like we might have two different suspects or two different groups breaking into cars," Britton said. Police did not have any suspect descriptions but are looking through surveillance video from a nearby house. They are seeking additional footage from another homeowner. Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to contact Central Point police at 541-664-5578. The thefts were the third rash of car break-ins to hit the Rogue Valley in less than a week. Last weekend, Medford police reported 48 break-ins, mostly in east Medford. On Monday, Ashland police responded to five theft reports. Stolen items included wallets, purses, watches, CDs, sunglasses and an iPad. In most cases, vehicle doors were unlocked. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] .
