She was born March 20, 1916 to Adolphus Lafayette Cain and Ollie May (Bynum) Cain in Murray, Ky. She was one of five children and outlived them all. In 1920 her family moved to Windsor, Calif. and Margery spent most of her life in central California. On May 25, 1940 Margery married Ethan A. Godfrey and together they had three children. Margery worked as a secretary for the State of California before becoming a long-term nanny. She also spent many years as a secretary and receptionist for an optometrist before her retirement. Margery was a devout and active church member in the Community of Christ Church for most of her life. She began playing the piano for church at the age of 14, and continued playing the piano and organ for her church until the last weeks of her life. Margery taught piano, wrote her own music, and played as often as she could. Throughout her life, Margery shared her commitment to the Lord in other ways as well with her written words, her ministry to children in Sunday School classes, and caring for the sick and needy. Margery was a strong and inspiring writer. Over the years, she wrote many poems and stories. She published 250 devotionals in the international church publication, “The Daily Bread.” Margery was loved dearly by all her family and friends. She is survived by her children Nadine Powell (Bruce), James Godfrey (Venessa), and John Godfrey (Carol); her grandchildren, Cindy Mosser (Roy), Mike Williams, Karen Hoffman (Guy), Bob Williams (Tanya), Denise Hampton (Eric), Aimee Doyle (Andrew), Jackie Lowdermilk (Travis), Shannon Bigham (Dan), Lori Bell (Tom), Bruce Powell Jr. (Lisa); 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Margery lived at Northridge Center for the last three years of her life. She loved living there and made many new friends. She was adored and will be missed by everyone. A celebration of life was held March 19, 2016 at the Community of Christ Church.
