He was in fair condition at a hospital Monday night. "He was real lucky," a police officer said. Boy listed in fair condition after accident A 9-year-old boy ended up in the hospital after a Toyota 4-Runner struck him Monday afternoon as he pushed his bicycle across West McAndrews Road in Medford. Joshua Martin was knocked under the vehicle as it rolled over him. He was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where he was reported in fair condition Monday night with head injuries, bruises and scratches. "It looks like he's pretty lucky," said Medford Police Officer Greg Nichols. "The speed limit out there is 35 mph." Joshua is the son of Dale Martin of Medford. About 3:55 p.m. Monday, Joshua and his brother were walking in the crosswalk at the intersection of West Jackson Street and McAndrews Road, which has four traffic lanes, Nichols said. The driver of a Honda had stopped in the left lane of McAndrews to wait for the boys to cross. Tina Omlid, 34, of Medford, was driving the 4-Runner east on McAndrews in the right lane. Another woman and two young children were passengers in the vehicle. She drove past the stopped Honda and hit Joshua, knocking him to the ground. Joshua's brother was not struck. Omlid's vehicle continued rolling over the boy and onto a curb. Police, firefighters and ambulances were called to the scene and paramedics pulled the stunned boy from beneath the vehicle. Firefighters said the boy was conscious and alert when they arrived. Nichols said that if the vehicle had been lower -- like a sedan -- the case could have turned out much differently. "The impact was hard enough to snap the wheel off of (the boy's) bicycle," Nichols said. "He was real lucky."
