I assume the reason they sent me the application was because the new owner hasn't transferred the title yet. I was in a hurry when I looked at the application and thought it was for my other truck. Some sticker slip-ups lock owners into costs automatically. This one, however, should only cost you the price of a stamp — that is, if you caught the mistake before putting the stickers on your truck. A customer service employee from the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles said you and anyone else in this predicament can mail those unwanted and unused stickers back to the office in Salem, along with a written explanation of what happened. You're right that DMV doesn't know that you no longer own this vehicle, or it wouldn't have sent you the application, she said. So before sending the letter asking for a refund on the sticker, she recommended contacting your local DMV office and letting workers there know that the motorhome is no longer yours. That will prevent this from happening again. Those selling or buying a vehicle should always let DMV know about the change in title, she said. The new owner also should transfer the title to his or her name, although they'll already have racked up additional fees for going beyond the 30-day deadline, according to the Oregon DMV website.
