PREP BASKETBALL North girls edge Roseburg in SWC finale Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 24, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Feb. 24, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News North Medford rallied in the fourth quarter to avenge an earlier loss to Roseburg and clinch third place in Southwest Conference girls basketball with a 48-47 road victory Tuesday. With the win, the Black Tornado (17-7, 9-5 SWC) turned the tables on the one-point loss to the Indians (15-9, 8-6) on Feb. 2. The schools were tied for third in the conference standings entering the regular-season finale. “It was a nip-and-tuck game,” said North Medford coach Tim Karrick. “Our two starting posts got in foul trouble and that slowed us down a little.” With posts Savannah Bumgardner and Adriane McLemore spending time on the bench saddled with fouls, the Black Tornado trailed 33-29 entering the final stanza. Then North went on an explosive run midway through the period to grab an eight-point lead with Bumgardner and McLemore in the game. “That was probably our best four minutes of basketball this season in the fourth quarter,” said Karrick. “Offensively we got a lot of good looks and took care of the ball.” Bumgardner still finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five steals in limited action. “She’s a quality player,” said Karrick. “She’s very athletic and runs the floor well and plays good defense. We need her on the court. We finally had that run with everybody in there.” North sophomore wing Maggie Freeman contributed a team-best 14 points to go with 11 rebounds and three steals. Rylee Karrick, a sophomore guard, added 10 points. “They made 16 more free throws than us,” said Karrick, “but we still won and that doesn’t happen too often.” NORTH MEDFORD (48): Lane 0, Ross 5, Bumgardner 13, Karrick 10, Hamilton 2, Freeman 14, McLemore 0, Fisk 0, Me.
