South’s Fisher shoots 68, GP wins Thursday Apr 27, 2017 at 2:00 AM Apr 27, 2017 at 10:32 PM EAGLE POINT — Medalist Reese Fisher shot a sizzling 4-under-par 68 to help the South Medford boys golf team grab second place in the eight-team Eagle Point Invitational at Eagle Point Golf Club on Thursday. Grants Pass won the event with Jackson Bartow carding a 76 and Gage Flaming 79. They scored 344 as a team while the Panthers combined for a 365. The Panthers also picked up an 86 from Gabe Provencio, while third-place Eagle Point was led by Kyler DeVore’s 81 and Jacob Hamilton’s 85, the fourth- and fifth-best scores of the afternoon. Baseball ASHLAND 9, SPRINGFIELD 2: At Springfield, a big first inning propelled Ashland to the Midwestern League victory. The Grizzlies (10-6, 7-6 MWL) used three walks, a hit batter and Peyton Fuller’s two-run single to score five runs in the first inning. Ashland tacked on three more runs in the second on Nick Sanderson’s three-run homer. Sanderson also had a double and four RBIs. Martinez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Martinez knocked in what proved to be the winning run with a two-run single in the fourth inning. Sam Datz and Thomas Skaff both had two hits for the Pirates (11-6, 5-3 Sky). The Phoenix offense was also helped by James Turnbull, who reached base three times and scored two runs, and Brennen Watts, who executed two sacrifice bunts and a sacrifice fly. Stella came in to get the final four outs without allowing a hit against defending state champion Henley (15-3, 6-2).
