The crush of pressure from the moving water hampered the team, Cory Krauss, Josephine County's Search and Rescue coordinator, said Tuesday. "Between the three of us, we weren't able to pull him out," Krauss said. "He's in a really bad spot." The body is wedged in some rocks, in about 2 feet of water. A rope-recovery team will now be used, Krauss said. The victim was identified as Mark Templeton, 57, of Los Altos, Calif. Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel said the accident occurred at Wildcat Rapids, a Class III rapid 3 miles downstream of Rainie Falls. The location is in the river's Wild section, 5 miles downstream of Grave Creek boat landing. The man tipped out of his inflatable kayak and became wedged in the rocks, despite wearing a life jacket and helmet, Daniel said. Members of the guide service that the man was with were able to contact authorities after reaching Marial Lodge 15 miles downriver later in the day Sunday. The drowning was the fifth this year on the Rogue River in Josephine County, but the first on the Wild Section of the river since 2013.
