Applegate driver likely killed by fallen tree By Vickie Aldous Updated: Jan 04, 2023 03:08 PM A A An Applegate Valley resident was likely killed after his pickup truck hit a fallen tree on Highway 238. [File photo] Applegate resident Steven Anson Marsh, 45, died in a single vehicle crash after possibly striking a downed tree in the roadway, Oregon State Police reported Wednesday. OSP responded to a crash at approximately 6:39 a.m. Monday near milepost 20 of Highway 238 in the Applegate Valley. A preliminary investigation indicated Marsh was traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet pickup truck and may have struck the downed tree in the road. The truck went off the road and came to rest in a nearby ditch. Marsh was pronounced deceased at the scene, OSP said. OSP was assisted by the Applegate Valley Fire District, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Oregon Department of Transportation. Marsh is at least the sixth Oregonian to die this winter after trees fell on vehicles or vehicles collided with fallen trees. December wind storms toppled trees and weakened others that are now at risk of falling. The National Weather Service has issued another high wind advisory for the Medford area through Thursday.
