Boy, 9, charged after threatening principal PHOENIX -- A 9-year-old Phoenix Elementary School student faces charges of menacing and initiating a false report after he threatened to blow up the school Monday, Phoenix police said. According to Chief Robert Kershaw, the 9-year-old told a teacher's aide that he wanted to blow up the principal and that he had something up his sleeve to do it. When Phoenix police arrived to investigate the incident, the boy's 11-year-old brother claimed responsibility for the threat and was taken into custody. When police realized their mistake, he was released. But as a result, the 11-year-old will be charged with hindering prosecution. Phoenix Elementary Principal Lynn Calhoun has suspended the 9-year-old pending a meeting with a parent and the school superintendent next week. She declined to comment on why the student was angry with her. Phoenix police said a previous discipline matter was involved. A report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Department for action, Kershaw said. "The Juvenile Department is taking a real hard line with this stuff in light of what's happened in the last one-and-a-half years in the schools," he said.
