Since You Asked: Northwest Cable News ceased broadcasting Jan. 6 Friday Jan 20, 2017 at 12:01 AM Why did Charter channel 57, NWCN, go off the air?  We watched it a lot. — Liz K., Medford   It appears Northwest Cable News, which broadcast for the last time just a couple weeks past its 21st anniversary Jan. 6, had fewer viewers like you toward the end. In case you missed it, the station's farewell newscast is available at www.nwcn.com. Viewership had declined over time, according to a Seattle Times interview with the general manager of the news channel's parent company, KING-TV. The 24-hour cable news network, operated out of the Seattle NBC affiliate's studios, stitched together stories from TV stations in Portland, Spokane, Seattle and Boise to broadcast news and weather programming of interest to our region.  But local news and information from non-TV sources, namely online, had cut into station's viewership. In 2016, contract buyouts of longtime on-air employees, and an agreement to stop airing the channel on Dish Network led to the decision to pull the plug.
