Born the ninth child of Aloysius and Marie Duman October 7, 1929, James Peter Duman lived with his thirteen siblings in Scio, Ore. on the family farm. As a young man, Jim worked with his father and brothers on the family farm and in the family sawmill business. At the age of nineteen, Jim's wanderlust got the best of him; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on several battleships during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after serving his country for 4 years. After a short romance, on November 8, 1953, Jim married Marilyn Hauth in Mount Angel, Ore. Together, they traveled throughout the northwest and northern California, where Jim worked short stints as a logger, truck driver, and millworker. They had the first of their 4 children, Carl, on March 5, 1954 while Jim worked as a logger in Klamath, Calif. Toni followed, being born July 25, 1956 in Silverton, Ore. Lloyd was born June 13, 1957 in Healdsburg, Calif. On February 27, 1973, Kristine completed their core family, born in Central Point. The extended family grew to include Robert Hernandez, Jamie Duman, and Jeff Allison. In 1959, Jim and Marilyn settled in Central Point, Where Jim began his profession iin the plywood industry. Jim launched his career at Elk Lumber, which was bought by Boise Cascade. Rising through the ranks, he became the superintendent of Boise Cascade's plywood mill; for eighteen years, he oversaw the production of the largest plywood producing mill in the world. Jim retired from Boise Cascade after a thirty-year tenure, and began a new career as Grandpa Jim-a position at which he excelled. He became mentor and friend to Chrissy, Jeffrey, Daniel, Steven, Rachel, Nic, Gabriel, Allie, and Josie. On Tuesday, March 24, 2015, surrounded by his family, Jim completed his life, kissing them all with his last breath.
