Juvenile uses pen to hold fellow inmate hostage A 15-year-old boy who used an ink pen to hold a hostage at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center Thursday could face charges of first-degree kidnapping and first-degree attempted escape. No one was injured in the 9:30 p.m. incident at the center, 1504 S. Armory Drive, Medford. The boy was among about 20 residents in a center day room when he became angry over a comment, grabbed a red ink pen and held it to the throat of a 15-year-old girl, according to Carl Erickson, deputy director of the county community justice department. The boy dragged the girl several feet before being stopped by supervisors, Erickson said. "I guess he watched too many Robert DeNiro movies," he said. Medford police were called to the scene. The boy, who originally was lodged in the center on a parole violation for a property crime, was placed under 24-hour supervision. Jackson County mental health workers were dispatched to help clients who witnessed the event, Erickson said. "The whole incident lasted 30 seconds," Erickson said.
