Iversen, who has been the agency's senior planner for six years and has worked on numerous projects such as the façade improvement program, said he is considering several local career options in development and planning. He said his last day will be Jan. 19 and he will be available to the agency during the transition if needed. Eric Stark, MURA board director, said he's sorry to see him go. "He was an excellent project manager who worked well with downtown merchants," he said. Stark said it's too soon to comment about whether a replacement will be hired, and the board has not yet met to discuss the subject. Stark said Iversen's departure should not affect the progress of the planned mixed-use, multi-block Middleford Commons project. Advertisement The agency's remaining positions, in addition to the director, are one full-time and two part-time administrative support technicians. Jackie Rodgers, MURA director, read from a prepared statement. "We appreciate Eric Iversen's involvement in the agency and wish him the very best. We are currently going through a replacement process and plan to have an announcement after the first of the year," she said. Scott Henselman, owner of Henselman Realty & Management, said Iversen's decision is unfortunate but not surprising. "It is the loss of the Medford Urban Renewal Agency to see him leave," said Henselman, adding that Iversen had applied for the director position and not been offered it. "I think he realized the agency is tuning down to just becoming an accounting firm," he said. Kurt Olsen, the agency's former director who left a year ago to return to his prior position as urban renewal director in Lincoln City, said Iversen's leaving MURA will be a significant loss to the downtown community. "He played a vital role in so many of the operational aspects of MURA," said Olsen. He added that beyond his professional abilities, Iversen had become a good friend.
