No. 2 Raiders triumph, 76-70 FRESNO, Calif. -- All-American Nada Janackovic led by example for second-ranked Southern Oregon University in a difficult road contest Saturday. Janackovic poured in a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Raiders registered their seventh straight victory by holding off spunky Fresno Pacific, 76-70, in women's college basketball at the Special Events Center. "Nada played a good, solid game," Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett said. "She made shots when we needed shots made, she got rebounds when we needed rebounds and really did a nice job defensively." Former Phoenix High standout Ali Richards provided a big boost for the Raiders. The sophomore point guard had her most productive game as a Raider with nine points, six assists and four steals. Additionally, Richards' tenacious defense held high-scoring Stacey Sedwick in check for most of the game. The Raiders (12-1) built an 11-point lead (54-43) with 6:40 to play before the Sunbirds cut the margin to 70-68 with 40 seconds left. "All we had to do was take care of the ball a little bit and run some clock," said Huyett. "But they made a couple of steals and hit some 3-pointers to come right back at us." That's when Lauren Mohan connected on 3-of-4 free throws and Denise Berry finished off the Raiders' scoring on a 3-point play off Mohan's miss. The Raiders forced 24 turnovers and had an excellent night at the free-throw line by connecting on 24 of 29.
