Mail Tribune 100, June 10, 1922 continued By Alissa Corman Jun 11, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago June 10, 192,2 continued BABY CLINIC AT CENTRAL POINT IS A GREAT SUCCESS Central Point, June 9.—Another one of those most successful of Baby Clinics was held here Thursday afternoon in the High School laboratory room under the direction of the Central Point committee of the Jackson County Health association ... This is the second clinic, held here, followed in the wake of the first one, which took in babies under two years of age, and which was one of the most interesting and most gratifying clinics ever held any place in the state. So successful was it that it was decided to have another one taking in all babies from two to four years of age, and that one was the one held Thursday afternoon. The day was blustering and stormy, just like it was at the previous clinic, but a little thing like wind and weather can’t keep hardy young Central Pointers in, and regardless of threatening skies a happy company of more than a score of mothers and youngsters were there. The physicians in attendance, Drs. Stearns, Holt and Heckman, found the little ones, in most cases to be in good, almost perfect physical condition, and quite as dear and attractive as the younger would be toddlers of the first clinic. Chubby dimpled, curled and beautiful in their pretty dress up clothes, the group of charming babies made a pretty picture and delighted the eye of all onlookers, of which there were many. A little older than their predecessors, these babies were a little more self conscious, more shy and in some cases reluctant to go through the tests, are resentful, just a little bit, at being disturbed from watching from behind mother’s skirts, what was happening to the rest. This all added to the pleasure and interest of the meeting, however, and made it sure one, big, grand success for which all present heartily thanked the committee and the tireless, faithful young nurse. LOCAL AND PERSONAL There was an old time public market this morning with a wealth of fresh vegetables and strawberries on sale, and soon every market day the public market will be doing its usual big spring and early summer business. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
