RETAIL APPAREL Forever 21 picks Rogue Valley Mall Job fair for applicants set for May 6-7 Comment By Greg Stiles Mail Tribune Follow @@GregMTBusiness MailTribune.com By Greg Stiles Mail Tribune Follow @@GregMTBusiness Posted Apr. 29, 2016 at 5:22 PM By Greg Stiles Mail Tribune Follow @@GregMTBusiness Posted Apr. 29, 2016 at 5:22 PM » Social News Trendy apparel retailer Forever 21, which claims to be the nation's fifth-largest retailer, is preparing to open a store in Rogue Valley Mall. The closely held company, headquartered in Los Angeles, has announced a job fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 6-7, at the former Gap store location on the lower level. The posting said Forever is hiring managers, store associates and stock associates. Applicants must be 18 or older. Forever 21 operates more than 730 stores in 48 countries. The company claims 30,000 employees and racked up $4.4 billion in revenue during the fiscal year ending Feb. 27, 2015, good enough to be listed at No. 95 on Forbes' list of private American companies. The retailer posted job fair dates for Chandler, Ariz., Tucson, Ariz., Naples, Fla., Salem, N.H., and Sandy, Utah, as well. But Medford was the lone entry designated as a new store. An opening date was not posted. There was no immediate response to efforts Friday to contact the corporate headquarters. Forever 21's stated goal is to reach $8 billion in sales by 2017, adding 600 stores over a three-year period. The average Forever 21 store is 38,000 square feet, reaching as large as 162,000 square feet, according to its website. All may not be well, however, for the chain launched in 1984 by Korean natives Don and Jin Sook Chang. In February, Forever 21 announced it would close its Yuba City, Calif., store and lay off 56 workers. This week, the New York Post reported vendors and lenders have complained the company has been late in paying bills. “We are unable to get timely financial disclosures from the company,” Gary Wassner, chief executive of Hilldun, told the Post. As a result, the New York retail industry lender pulled its credit lines for Forever 21. Wassner told the Post that Hilldun was approving financing on an "order-by-order basis." RBC Capital Markets analyst Brian Tunick told the Post, “Our contacts in the channel have estimated that they’ve had negative same-store sales for the past several years.” Reach reporter Greg Stiles at 541-776-4463 or [email protected] .
