Mary Forkash Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 21, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Aug. 21, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Mary Forkash Mary Forkash, 67 of Ashland, Ore. passed away peacefully with her husband at her side. She lived her life fully, while she courageously battled her illness of 18 years. Born in Portland Ore. February 4, 1948 to Robert and Dorothy Schram; she is survived by her husband, Howard Forkash; her brother, Robert Schram; and sisters, Molly Westbrook, Marla Campbell, and Melissa Farmer. She attended St. Mary’s Academy High School in Portland and excelled in acting and theater. She appeared as the leading lady in several on stage productions; most notably Paint Your Wagon , receiving high accolades from the local theater critics and film producers. Throughout her high school years she was a successful model for Jantzen Sportsware, and also presided as the President of the Portland chapter of the Junior Red Cross. Mary went on to attend Fort Wright College to work under the 'method acting' training of Bob and Joan Welsh. While there, she appeared in Th e Rimers of Eldritch, Twelfth Night, Calm Down Mother , and The Caucasian Chalk Circle . Achieving her success and excellence as an actor in theater, Mary was placed in “Who’s Who” in American Colleges & Universities. Upon graduating from Fort Wright College, Mary was chosen as one of four women in the world to attend (LAMDA), the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art in London, England. While at LAMDA, she appeared in A Winter’s Tale, The Cherry Orchard , Hamlet, The Balcony , and Love For Love . Before returning to the United States, she traveled extensively through Western Europe and spent considerable time on the Portuguese island of Madeira with her actor friend Alan Napier from the Batman TV series. Upon returning to Portland she was immediately sought after by the Mark Allen Players Company to play the parts of "Brenda” and “Joan” in Lovers & Other Strangers . On the heels of the play’s success, Mary brought her fine acting into the Motion Picture Film ; and stared as “Kathy” in the Motion Picture, The Circl e ; produced by Moyer Productions. In the '70s, she moved south to Ashland so that she could become part of the Shakespeare. Openings for an ingénue at the time were rare and while waiting for an opening she worked evenings as a waitress and barmaid at the Vintage Inn in Ashland. Mary was introduced to horses at a very young age and with her proactive zest for living, going fast, and taking chances, she became an excellent ‘cross-country' event rider. She also competed in stadium jumping, and she spent her last few years actively involved in the equestrian sport of dressage. She received training from several notable instructors such as Jacques Le Goff, coach of the World Champion Olympic United States Three-Day Team, Jean Claude Racinet, the author of Total Horsemanship and the last few years she received training in dressage from her friend, the fine Southern Oregon equestrian judge and trainer Angela Littlefield. In 1994, Mary became part of an emergent health supplement company in Texas called Emprise. Emprise grew with much success, became Mannatech Inc, with over a million distributors in 22 countries. Her success and commitment with Mannatech elevated her to status of Platinum Presidential. She personally trained and brought much success to hundreds of associates in Southern Oregon and throughout the world. Mary's smile, her energy, her zest for living life to the fullest will be honored and celebrated on Saturday, August 29 from noon to 3 p.m.) at the Pascal Winery in Talent.
