Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend April 13, 2006 Emigrant Lake adds playground for kids By JAMIE MILLER Mail Tribune The Emigrant Lake Recreation Area has a new playground for kids. The recently constructed playground features a fort structure with three slides, ladders, a climbing wall, a fitness obstacle course, a separate "spider net" climbing structure, swings and a water mister. The area, near Group Picnic Area D, also is equipped with new bathrooms. The playground covers nearly a full acre. The project began last fall in response to requests from park users. Randy Hutton, Jackson County Parks program manager, said visitor comment cards pointed out that the area was sorely lacking a playground. The Jackson County Parks Department and the federal Bureau of Reclamation shared the cost of the project, which totaled $154,000. Advertisement The new playground is open for use, though several features aren’t finished. Future plans call for landscaping and a paved parking area near the playground. Hutton said Emigrant Lake Recreation Area is the busiest park in the county’s parks program. He expects the playground will draw more visitors to the recreation area. In addition to the playground, the Emigrant Lake Recreation Area features covered picnic areas, picnic tables, an RV park, two water slides, concessions, boat docks, hiking trails and a swimming area. Emigrant Lake Recreation Area is open for day use all year from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day-use fee for the park is $3.
