Ashland's water plant passes test for Y2K bug ASHLAND -- The city's water treatment plant should keep churning out clean water even after the calendar changes to the year 2000. The water plant passed a Y2K test last week, city officials announced. On May 4, the city's year 2000 consultant tested the computer software at the water plant. The date on the primary system was rolled forward to 11:55 p.m. Dec. 31, 1999. After a half-hour, the system was still operating normally. The water plant's backup computer system will be upgraded this summer. After the upgrade, both the primary and the backup systems will be fully Y2K compliant, city officials said. Some computers can't tell the difference between 1900 and 2000, prompting worries that myriad computer-run systems could fail at the beginning of next year.
