Alvin Gomes Oct 17, 2006 12:00 AM A A Alvin Gomes May 17, 1914 ~ Oct. 12, 2006 Alvin Gomes, 92, of Medford, passed away Thursday at Farmington Square. He was born near Lisbon, Portugal to Joseph Steven Gomes and Mary Carmen Duarte. On February 18, 1950, he married Betty Whipple Gomes in Sacramento, Calif. Alvin served in WWII and was in the Normandy Invasion of June, 1944, at Omaha Beach. In his earlier years, Alvin was a driver, then later, a supervisor, at Commercial Linen Supply. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and bowling. He is survived by his wife, Betty Whipple Gomes; son, John S. Gomes; sister, Olive Gaspar, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret O'Connell, who died in 1987.
