The 1:15 a.m. collision near milepost 24 caused the truck to flip onto its right side, with its trailer blocking the freeway’s northbound left lane, Oregon State Police Lt. Kurt Barthel said. Truck driver Ernesto Fernandez-Barajas, 26, of Beaverton, was treated for a leg injury suffered in the wreck. Northbound traffic on I-5 was restricted to one lane until about 9 a.m. Police needed the time to remove the cow and empty the tractor-trailer, Barthel said. The cow apparently roamed onto the freeway after getting loose from a nearby enclosure.
