Photos lead to porn charges Medford man's ex-roommate finds photos A 25-year-old Medford man was arraigned on two felony sex-abuse charges Monday after his former roommate found that he had computer discs bearing child pornography images on them, authorities said. Shaun Jason Meyer appeared Monday in a Jackson County court for his initial arraignment on two counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the second-degree. Meyer, who lived on the 400 block of Benson Street, allegedly had at least one compact disc containing more than 75 photographic images of nude minor girls, according to a Medford police report. In Oregon, possession of such photographs is considered a state crime of encouraging child sexual abuse. The state charge can be either a felony or a misdemeanor. The pictures are considered child abuse because the demand for them leads to children being exploited to make the photos, according to the statutes. Judge Ross Davis set Meyer's bail at $20,000, and Meyer was returned to the Jackson County Jail. The case began June 15, when Meyer's roommate allegedly found the suspect viewing child porn on his computer, police reports state. Meyer then reported to the Jackson County Jail on June 18 to serve a 10-day sentence for two previous theft convictions, and the roommate was moving Meyer out of the residence, police said. The roommate apparently became curious about what sorts of computer files Meyer kept, and discovered the illegal images Friday on the disc, Medford police Sgt. Roy Skinner said. The disc was turned over Sunday to detectives, who added 75 felony sex-abuse charges to Meyer's jail log. Prosecutors Monday filed just two felony counts against Meyer, but that could be expanded after a grand jury reviews the case, Skinner said.
