CRIME NEWS Central Point man jailed on murder charge Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Nov. 12, 2014 at 8:23 AM Updated Nov 12, 2014 at 9:45 AM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Nov. 12, 2014 at 8:23 AM Updated Nov 12, 2014 at 9:45 AM » RELATED CONTENT • Wade Phillips charged with murder, attempted murder in Central Point shooting... » Social News The Central Point man who hid from police in his attic after allegedly shooting his wife in front of at least one child is in the Jackson County Jail, held on a murder charge. Wade Eugene Phillips, 42, is being held in the jail without bail, according to jail records. He is suspected of killing his wife, 37-year-old Cynthia Michelle Phillips at the couple's home, 6522 Truax Road, Tuesday morning, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported. No one else was injured. Police responded to a shots fired call on Truax Road, located in a semi-rural area in Central Point, at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday. Sheriff's department deputies found Cynthia Phillips dead inside the home. An investigation pointed to Wade Phillips as a suspect, and police began a search of the surrounding area. Officers, K9 units and SWAT members from the sheriff's department, Medford police and OSP combed through fields, outbuildings, sheds and backyards, but eventually discovered Wade had been hiding inside the home the entire time. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident. Detectives from the sheriff's department, OSP, and Medford, Central Point and Ashland police continue to investigate the case. Information on what led to the shooting has not yet been released. Wade has no previous criminal history in Oregon, court records show.
