(Dick) Moore, M.D. Dr. Frank Moore, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at home. He was a long-time resident and well-known obstetrician and gynecologist in Medford, Ore. He was born June 15, 1934 to Frank A. Moore Sr and Ferne R. Moore in Carmel, Calif. He spent his early childhood in Sacramento and King City, Calif. and graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, Calif. In 1952, Dick enrolled in per-med at Willamette University, Salem, Ore. , graduating in 1956. While at Willamette, Dick pledged Beta Theta Pi where he met many life-long friends and enjoyed fraternity life. His long-standing love for golf was justified as he became stalwart of the W.U. golf team. The University of California Medical School in San Francisco granted him an M.D. degree in 1960 followed by internship at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1961, Dick entered the Army and after completing basic Medical Corps training in San Antonio, Texas, he served in Germany for two years. After his military service, he returned to San Francisco and the University of California for four years of specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1966, Dick moved to Medford, Ore. joining Drs. Otto Emig and John Watson in their practice. His own practice began to flourish and eventually the group, known locally as the “Ob-Gyn Clinic” included more M.D. specialists, women’s health specialists, and certified nurse midwives. Dick was always proud of the designation of the Clinic being the first private practice in Oregon to have certified nurse midwives. Dick admired and followed the Prepared Childbirth techniques put forth by Elizabeth Bing and the Childbirth Education Association in New York. He became a Board Member of the national organization and a close friend of Mrs. Bing. His was a significant influence in changing obstetrical practice in southern Oregon. Dick’s special passion was studying and collecting French neo-impressionist and western art. He also deeply loved the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Dick met and married the “the love of his life," Marlene (Marty) in 1981. They shared a love of culture, fine food, good friends, and bridge. Travel abroad and domestically was an exciting part of their lives. Prior to and upon his retirement in 1988, Dick had developed a strong commitment to local visual and performing arts. He served on various boards, including but not limited to, Peter Britt, the Schneider Museum, the Rogue Valley Symphony, and the SOU Chamber Music Series Board. He was a frequent and successful fundraiser for many of his favorite organizations and was committed to World Community Service as a member of the Medford Rogue Rotary Club. He traveled to Poland for Rotary International to help organize a new club in Torun. This, he followed with two more trips to provide obstetrical and gynecological supplies and instruments for the medical school there. Dick served as President of the Pacific NW OB-Gyn Society. He was twice Moderator and also served as treasurer of the Medford Congregational Church. Dick loved sports, participating in golf, skiing, basketball, infra-mural football, and bowling at various times in his life. He continued his interests as he aged, attending many events locally and on the college and professional level. Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene (Marty) Moore; his daughter, Wendy St. Laurent of Winter Park, Fla.; grandsons, Alexander and Nicolas St. Laurent and their father, Will St. Laurent, of Winter Park, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Kelly Russell; step-granddaughter, Sarah Cullen; step-granddaughters, Brooklyn and London Cullen; step-grandsons, Micah and Aaron Nash and Zachary Russell; and his stepson, Kirk Russell. Dick’s son, Scott, preceded him in death in 1998. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Medford Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Medford Congregational Church, Medford Rogue Rotary Foundation, or C.A.T.S.
