Schireman, who’s averaging 17.5 points a game, tallied 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field. But it was sophomore forward Faust who gave the eighth-ranked Black Tornado (18-4, 9-3 SWC) an extra boost with 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks. “(Faust) was a little more aggressive tonight and attacked the offensive glass,” said North Medford coach Scott Plankenhorn. Grants Pass (7-14, 3-9) trailed 39-20 at halftime then North opened the third quarter with a 14-2 run to grab its biggest lead of the game, 53-22. “We did a good job of taking care of business from the start of the third quarter,” said Plankenhorn. “We really played a pretty sound game.” North Medford junior Tre Holmes contributed nine points, eight rebounds and four assists. SOUTH MEDFORD 55, ROSEBURG 44: At Roseburg, Kaleb Franklin sparked No. 4 South Medford with 14 of his 15 points in the second half, including a 9-for-10 effort from the foul line in the fourth quarter as the Panthers clinched at least a share of the Southwest Conference title. Franklin also managed seven steals for South Medford (21-2, 11-1 SWC), which holds a two-game lead atop the SWC with two games remaining. Conor Carroll added 14 points and seven rebounds and Josh Washington had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers, who outscored Roseburg (8-14, 3-9) 16-7 in the third quarter to take control. CRATER 66, EAGLE POINT 57: At Central Point, Crater sophomores Kiefer Edwards (25 points, eight rebounds) and Mason Vranes (23 points) had big nights to lead the Comets to the Midwestern League victory. Edwards was 11-for-16 from the field while Vranes connected on 5 of 11 3-point attempts for Crater (5-17, 2-8 MWL). Eagle Point junior Mario Quintero had 24 points, four rebounds and four assists to pace the Eagles (5-15, 2-7), while Jax Bell had nine points and eight rebounds. The Pirates (3-20) got blitzed early as Hidden Valley (18-5) went out to a 23-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Girls NORTH MEDFORD 42, GRANTS PASS 40, OT: At Grants Pass, North Medford sophomore Adriane McLemore scored on an inside basket a little more than one minute into overtime and that held up to push the Black Tornado into sole possession of third place in the Southwest Conference standings. Savannah Bumgardner battled through foul troubles to post 17 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists to lead North Medford (16-6, 8-4 SWC). Maggie Freeman added nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals and McLemore finished with six points. Jacque Luaders hit a game-tying 3-pointer with three seconds to go to force overtime for Grants Pass (10-10, 5-7). Luaders finished with 16 points. Destiny Fahndrich added 11 points and six rebounds and Evie Kent had eight points, nine rebounds and three assists for the Comets (15-7, 7-3 MWL), who led 37-11 by halftime. Mallory Heard led Crater with five assists. Eagle Point (4-16, 0-9) got seven points from Haylee Crowe and six by Adrienne Wood. The Honkers took a 22-8 opening-period advantage. St. Mary’s (12-12) twice got back to within four points but could never get any closer. Sophomore guard Adrien Birmingham led St. Mary’s (12-12) with 11 points and Emma Bennion had nine in the season-ending loss. ST.
