A couple of months ago, the 17-year-old White City girl was pregnant and living in a friend’s car. Today, she’s the mother of a 2-week-old baby boy facing the twin tasks of drug rehabilitation and young parenthood. Even with the help of the Home program run by OnTrack Inc. of Medford, it’s a daunting challenge. Through the residential drug and alcohol treatment center, the girl has a place to stay and support for changing her life. She knows that overcoming her family’s long legacy of drug abuse will take dedication and hard work. Taking the first steps toward a new life requires certain resources — and this girl has none. If she could have one wish this holiday season, it would be for a car seat with a removable infant carrier to make sure her baby is safe from the start. Additional baby supplies — clothes, diapers, warm sleepers — would also be welcome. And a little something for the new mom couldn’t hurt, either. The girl is among some 16 moms and eight babies now living at OnTrack’s Home program. To help her or any of the others, call Lisa Hibberds at 772-4648.
