Ashland wins Little League tilt Local roundup The Ashland 11-12 year old Little League team defeated the South Suburban Nationals from Klamath Falls to advance to today's game against the South Suburban Americans in the District 6 All-Star game at Hunter Field. Tyler Fieguth drove home the tieing and winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Ashland the win. Teammate Steve Jorgenson scored two of the four Ashland runs in the game. The winner of today's 6 p.m. game faces the undefeated Medford Americans for championship on Thursday. Basketball OREGON ICE FINALLY MELT -- At Colorado Springs, the Oregon Ice, a 15-year-old boys basketball team, fell short in the consolation championship game against Team Texas, 76-58, in the BCI Junior Prep National 15-under tourney. South Medford's Eric Fiegi led the Oregon squad with seven rebounds, while adding 10 points, seven blocks and one steal. Ryan Heil, also of South Medford, added eight points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist in the loss. The Ice went 4-3 in the 40-team tournament. OREGON HOOPSTERS ADVANCE -- The Oregon Hoopsters reached the sweet 16 of the AAU National 14-under girls basketball tournament with wins over the North Carolina Lady Aces, 77-60, and the New England Bay State Magic, 68-59. The Hoopsters tacked on a full-court press against the Lady Aces in the first game break away from an eight all tie and take a 44-18 halftime lead. From their the reserves coasted home for the win. Crater High's Sarah Pool and Sarah Yager each chipped in with 12 points to match Klamath Union's Amy Denson's 12 points and national tourney record tieing 11 steals. It was a back-and-forth contest in the second game against the Bay State Magic as neither team led by more than three points until late. Jesuit's Kelly Turner sank a three to seal the win with 1:47 left. Denson led Oregon with 18 points to go along with Yager's 14. The Hoopsters play today at 8:30 a.m. in an elimination game against the West Pennsylvania Bruins who have an overall record of 65-3.
