GOLD HILL — Police arrested a Gold Hill man two days after his 18th birthday after they allegedly caught him in the act of burglarizing the town little league concession stand over the weekend. Despite having just become a legal adult, Chase Alan Martin was lodged at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention facility in Medford Saturday night on an outstanding warrant police previously issued for a separate juvenile probation violation, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. He was still there as of this morning. Police responded to the fields, located off Highway 234 right on the edge of the city limits, just before 10 p.m. A nearby resident had called police at 9:37 p.m. to report a "banging sound" coming from the small structure. A deputy arrived to find Martin inside. "Everything on the inside was ransacked," said Sgt. Julie Denney of the sheriff's department. "Some of that is things that are going to have to be replaced." Food preparation equipment and other appliances were among the pieces of property that had been damaged inside. Food, cups, cleaning supplies, baseballs and other miscellaneous property were also strewn about, police said. Martin allegedly removed the air conditioning unit from the exterior to gain entrance to the building, which also caused water damage to the interior because of the appliance's severed water line that resulted from the removal. Damages to the building total about $2,000, police said. Martin was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and cannabis and was "initially uncooperative" with the arresting officer, police said. He was cited on new charges of second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree trespass. The case has been forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office.
