The Crusaders nearly overcame a two-point second quarter, but couldn’t climb all the way back during a 35-31 loss to Lost River. St. Mary’s (6-7, 2-6 SCL) narrowed a double-digit deficit to two late in the game but Lost River connected on its late free throws to seal the win. "They were up 30-18, but we kept chipping away and chipping away," said St. Mary’s coach Pete Zappas. "We were able to chunk into that lead pretty good and the next thing I knew we’re in the game." The Crusaders were playing without second-leading scorer Kelly Walden, who was out with the flu, and post Brittany Farrer was hobbled by tendinitis in her knee. "Not having Kelly was tough," said Zappas. "But you have to give credit to them. I think Lost River is the best defensive team in the league, at least that we’ve seen." Alex Tomlinson led the Crusaders with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Farrer finished with seven points and 10 boards. Meghan Biggs, who scored 39 points against Bonanza last week, finished with 14 to lead Lost River. LOST RIVER (35) — Biggs 14, Hammers 8, Burch 4, Hickey 4, Schuck 2, K. Rieger 2, Robinette 1, J.
