Authorities spent much of today combing the mountains west of Ashland for Dylan Clark, who disappeared Sunday — a week after a Central Point woman disappeared and died from hypothermia there, authorities said. Loggers in the adjacent Applegate Valley drainage discovered a tired, hungry and disoriented Clark and took him to the Applegate Fire District office, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. "I'd say he traveled 12 to 18 miles," Lt. Pat Rowland said. "How he got over into the Applegate we'll never know." Clark was taken to the Providence Medford Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Monday evening, said hospital spokeswoman Lauren Van Sickle. Advertisement Clark apparently left his Granite Street home, which he shares with an aunt, for a hike around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, but he became confused and lost his sense of direction, Rowland said. Clark used his cell phone twice to call out-of-state relatives, but he said he did not need help and that he thought he would be out of the woods shortly, Rowland said. Family members then contacted Jackson County sheriff's deputies Monday and the search was launched. It was suspended about 5:45 p.m. when searchers learned that Clark had been found by loggers. Clark was wearing a green U.S. Army parka, a beige vest, green cord pants, dark athletic shoes and a floppy beige hat. He spent much of his time in the snow, Rowland said. Clark's disappearance came a week after a Central Point woman was found dead of hypothermia after getting lost while skiing on Mount Ashland. Ellen Miller, 44, was downhill skiing with her husband and children Jan. 27 on the east side of the mountain and got separated from her family. She apparently became disoriented and ended up lost in steep terrain near the Ashland Creek drainage, authorities said. Reach reporter Mark Freeman at 776-4470, or e-mail [email protected] .
