Steelheads edge Spartans in finale Mar 01, 2015 12:00 AM A A The Idaho Junior Steelheads edged Southern Oregon, 5-4, in the Spartans' regular-season finale during Western States Hockey League action at The RRRink on Saturday. Southern Oregon next hosts the Seattle Totems (10-35) in a three-match playoff series beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday. It will continue Saturday at the same time and, if necessary, conclude with a 6 p.m. match on Sunday. Mackenzie Wood had two goals and one assist and Anton Bokull had one goal and two assists for Southern Oregon (34-12), which fell behind 3-0 against Idaho before rallying to even the match in the second period. Hunter Cyr had the go-ahead tally at the 11:24 mark in the second. Wood recorded an unassisted, short-handed goal in the third period. He finished as the conference's points leader with 108. The Junior Steelheads (42-4), the club with the league's best record, outshot Southern Oregon, 42-26. Goalkeeper Reed Kinsey made 37 saves. Idaho recorded ten penalty minutes on five infractions and the Spartans had 14 penalty minutes on seven infractions.
