Agents of the Jackson County Narcotics Enforcement Team on Wednesday arrested Cassidy on three counts of delivering marijuana, two counts of possession of marijuana and manufacturing marijuana. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained late Wednesday on $70,000 bail. Identity theft — Wendy Lynn Carter, 24, of the 4000 block of Camino Viejo, Medford. A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy Wednesday arrested Carter on three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, three counts of second-degree theft and identity theft. She was lodged in jail then released because of overcrowding. Theft, identity theft — Stephen Rodriguez, 53, no known address. A Medford police officer Wednesday arrested Rodriguez on five counts of identity theft, five counts of second- degree forgery, five counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and first-degree theft. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Wednesday on $157,000 bail. Drugs — Kristopher John Webb, 22, of the 600 block of North Grape Street, Medford. A Medford police officer Wednesday arrested Webb on charges of possession of amphetamines and a probation violation. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Wednesday on $5,000 bail. Vehicle theft — Marc Roberts Edwards, 29, of the 100 block of B Street, Ashland. An Ashland police officer Wednesday arrested Edwards on charges of unlawful use of a vehicle and a probation violation. He was lodged in jail without bail. Vehicle theft — Warren William Hamilton, 34, of Anchorage, Alaska. A Phoenix police officer Wednesday arrested Hamilton on a charge of unlawful use of a vehicle and several out- of-county warrants charging him with identity theft, credit card fraud and second-degree forgery. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Wednesday on $273,500. Advertisement Drugs — Michael Jarred Bakkela, 25, of the 6000 block of Colver Road, Talent. A Central Point police officer Wednesday arrested Bakkela on a warrant charging him with possession of amphetamines and an out-of-county warrant charging him with a probation violation. He was lodged in jail without bail. Crime reports Burglary — 700 block of Savage Creek Road, Rogue River. A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy Wednesday took a report of a burglary in which someone entered a home and stole a dirt bike valued at $4,000. Fire calls Grass fire — Honor Drive, Medford. Employees monitoring a camera situated atop a building at Rogue Valley Manor spotted flames and called the Medford Fire Department to battle a grass fire that broke out around noon Wednesday. A cultivator working in the area sparked the fire, which burned about three acres of grass before it was contained, said Dan Petersen, battalion chief for the fire department. The fire burned to within 100 feet of several homes, Petersen said. Crews had the fire contained in about 20 minutes. Miscellaneous Interstate 5 pursuit — A California man who led police on a 35-mile chase along Interstate 5 was arrested Wednesday after officers broke out a window on his vehicle and pulled him from it. David McNemar, 47, was taken into custody and transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford for a mental health evaluation, Oregon State Police Lt. Tanya Henderson said in a news release. California Highway Patrol officers first tried to stop McNemar’s 1986 Toyota van at 1:14 p.m., about three miles north of Yreka. McNemar ignored the officer and continued north on I-5 into Oregon, Henderson said. McNemar was finally stopped at milepost 11, near Ashland, when an OSP trooper deployed a set of "stop sticks" that deflated a pair of the van’s tires, Henderson said. The top speed of the pursuit in Oregon was 60 mph. McNemar refused to exit the vehicle, forcing officers to break out a window on the van and pull the man from his vehicle, Henderson said. Charges of attempted eluding and resisting arrest will be referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. Jail releases — During the week that ended Oct. 1, 96 people were released from the Jackson County Jail to avoid exceeding the court-imposed cap of 230 inmates. Twenty-three were released on their own recognizance; 12 were granted early release; and 61 were released for miscellaneous reasons.
