Young leads the way as Henley sweeps Pirates TALENT Krystal Young was a thorn in the side of the Phoenix High softball team all day Friday. The Henley pitcher tossed a no-hitter in the opening game as the Hornets claimed a 2-1, eight-inning victory, then clubbed a pair of doubles in leading the visitors from Klamath Falls to a 4-0 second-game victory and a sweep of the Skyline Conference doubleheader. "She didnt overwhelm us by any means but she threw strikes and put a lot of pitches on the outside part of the plate that turned into groundballs," Phoenix coach Rich Ficek said. Henley scored a run in the top of the eighth inning of the opener to take a 2-1 lead. The Pirates then had runners on second and third with one out, but failed to come through with the tying and winning runs. "That was frustrating," Ficek said. "We had our chance." Henley tallied three runs in the first inning of the nightcap as Young drilled a two-run double. In the fourth, Young and winning pitcher Jessica Birt spanked doubles to produce the games final run. The two losses dropped the Pirates (8-4, 5-3 Skyline) out of first place, while Henley (6-2) moved into a first-place tie with Illinois Valley (5-1) heading into todays action.
