Hayward drops Ashland in tourney championship Sometimes knowing isn't enough, however, as Hayward used a trapping defense to coast past Ashland, 71-55. "They had too many horses for us," said fifth-year Ashland coach John Skinner. "We knew they were going to run and jump us and we just made a couple poor decisions as far as getting the ball down the floor. We picked the ball up and were trapped. They just had a lot of really quick kids." Isaac Wright had 12 points and Clint Bryan added 10 to pace Ashland (3-3), while Hayward (8-0) countered with 18 points from Ricky Williams. The Grizzlies struggled out of the gate, allowing Hayward to take a 10-point lead after the first quarter and a 39-23 halftime advantage. "We just got in a hole and couldn't dig out of it," said Skinner. For their efforts this week, Lance Streng and Titus Weston were named to the all-tournament team. The two combined for only 12 points against Hayward. Skinner said he was particularly pleased with the performance of Wright and Bryan, who stepped up when Hayward put the clamps on Streng, Weston and Bryan Clevenger. "They're just starting to click," said the coach. "We had Weston and Streng the first two games along with Clevenger, then tonight Wright and Bryan came alive. That's a thing we're hoping will work to our advantage. We were wondering where our points would come from and this is a good sign. That's a positive we'll be able to build on."
