CRIME Talent man faces new sex abuse charges Comment By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Posted Oct. 14, 2015 at 5:59 PM By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Posted Oct. 14, 2015 at 5:59 PM » Social News A Talent man accused of using multiple Facebook accounts to contact underage girls was arraigned Wednesday on new charges of sexual abuse. Maitland Kahikinaokala Kamaunu, 20, faces new felony counts involving two additional victims, according to a new indictment, including one charge of third-degree rape and two charges of sexual abuse in the second degree. Kamaunu was charged Oct. 6 with second- and third-degree sodomy, second- and third-degree rape, first- and second-degree sexual abuse and unlawful delivery of marijuana to a minor. He pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment Wednesday. Kamaunu has been held on $1 million bail on the Oct. 6 charges, and Jackson County Circuit Judge Timothy Barnack set bail at $100,000 on the new charges. According to an indictment document filed Oct. 14, Kamaunu is charged with third-degree rape for engaging in sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16 in July of this year. The two new charges stem from a different victim noted in the indictment as younger than 18. Kamaunu is accused of having sexual contact with that victim between May and August. The victim in the case charged last week, according to the Oct. 6 indictment, is younger than 14. Kamaunu is accused of delivering marijuana to her and having sexual contact with her Sept. 22 of this year. Earlier this year Kamaunu was charged with unlawful delivery of marijuana to a minor, third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy for a Sept. 12, 2014, incident involving a victim younger than 16 who is different from the three listed above. A trial is scheduled in that case Nov. 17. Jackson County Sheriff's Detective Steve Bohn, who is investigating the case, encourages other victims to come forward with their story. "We're still seeking the public's help," Bohn said. "I believe there are still new victims out there." Victims in these types of cases may be afraid of getting themselves in trouble, but Bohn emphasized that investigators just want the victims' story. "We typically don't hold a victim accountable for using alcohol or drugs," Bohn said. Bohn encouraged anyone with information about this or other cases involving Kamaunu to call the sheriff's office at 541-774-6800 and reference case number 15-17331.
