Latest win lifts Oregon women to 5-1 in Pac-10 Oregon State falls to Washington EUGENE -- Jenny Mowe played one of her most complete games of the season, scoring 16 points with six rebounds and seven blocked shots to lead Oregon past Washington State 72-64 on Sunday. What was shaping up to be a blowout turned into a nail-biter as the Cougars (7-7, 1-4) went on a 21-0 run midway through the second half to turn a 23-point deficit into four points, 60-56, with six minutes to go. After four minutes of staying neck and neck, Washington State's Tricia Lamb sank a 3-pointer to bring her team within two points with 1:47 to play. But Natasha O'Brien answered with a 3-pointer of her own next time down the court to put Oregon(14-3, 5-1) ahead by 67-62. Then it was just a matter of the Ducks making their free throws down the stretch, which they did, scoring five of seven from the foul line. The win gave Oregon its best start since it opened 21-0 in 1978-79. The Ducks ended that season 23-2. It also was the 11th win in 12 games against Washington State for Oregon coach Jody Runge. The Ducks jumped out to an early 19-point lead before settling in at a 17-point halftime lead, 44-27. The Cougars, who had averaged 8.2 3-pointers per game coming into Saturday's game, made only four of 20 attempts. Victoria Harrod led Washington State with a game-high 18 points. Lamb, who led the Pac-10 Conference in scoring coming into the game at 18.8 points per game, was held to just 10 points. Shaquala Williams added 14 points for Oregon, 10 of those in the second half and O'Brien added 12 points. CORVALLIS -- Malinda Lynch scored a career-best 20 points and added 12 rebounds for Washington on Sunday to lead the Huskies to a 72-67 Pacific-10 Conference victory over Oregon State. The Huskies (8-6, 4-1 Pac-10) pulled away from a 60-60 tie in the final six minutes for the win. Oregon State (10-5, 2-4) had led for most of the second half before Washington's closing spurt. The Huskies took the lead for good, 62-60, on an Amber Hall basket just before the shot clock expired with 4:55 remaining. Hall added a free throw and Lynch added a 3-pointer for a 65-60 lead, completing an 8-0 run that erased a 60-57 deficit. Oregon State got within 70-67 with nine seconds to play. But Hall twice made one of two free throws in the final eight seconds to clinch the victory. Hall added 19 points, Megan Franza 16 points and Jamie Redd 12 points for Washington. Redd also had five steals and five assists, but was only 5-for-15 from the field. Ericka Brosterhous and Reda Kakeranaite led the Beavers with 14 points and seven rebounds apiece.
