Spartans notch first victory Sep 26, 2010 12:00 AM A A BREMERTON, Wash. — The Southern Oregon Spartans parlayed a big second period into a 5-0 NORPAC hockey victory over Puget Sound Saturday at Bremerton Rink. The Spartans' first win of the season evens their record at 1-1 in the Pacific Division. They visit Seattle tonight to finish their three-game, season-opening road trip. Dane Irving, a St. Mary's High senior, scored two of Southern Oregon's four goals in the second period as the Spartans built a 4-0 lead. His goals were off assists from Shane Harrington at 17:39 and from Greg Evans and Saylor Preston at 19:56. Earlier, Patging Martin scored on a power play just 30 seconds into the period. He was assisted by Dario Torres. Chris Whitten made it 2-0 just 32 seconds later, assisted by Kyle Watne. Ian Redlinger finished off the scoring 6:17 into the third on a power play. Chris Whitten got the assist. Southern Oregon was 2-for-7 on power plays to Puget Sound's 0-for-13. The Spartans out-shot the Tomahawks, 68-23. Winning goalie Trey Flesch stopped 23 shots.
