Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 20, 2005 Since You Asked Thousands visit sex-offender tracking site I think the county is providing an important service with its Web page that lists predatory sex offenders. Does anyone know how popular the site has been? — Jane C., Central Point It appears the county’s information on sex offenders is in higher demand than news of elected officials. The predatory sex offender page had 8,593 visitors during the week of its debut (Aug. 1-8), according to Danny Jordan director for Jackson County Community Justice. The number represents one of the largest responses ever to a county Web page, surpassing even election results tracked during a week-long period, Jordan said. The county’s information technology department statistics don’t show who is visiting the site, which could include everyone from police to the offenders themselves, and their families, Jordan said. Displayed on the right-hand side of Jackson County’s home page ( www.jacksoncounty.org ), the link maintains photos of 33 predatory sex offenders supervised by the county’s parole and probation department. Clicking on individual photos will show offenders’ addresses, places of employment, descriptions of their vehicles, license plate numbers and information on how they committed their crimes. The Web site represents a new form of notification for the county’s predatory sex offenders, not an indication that they have violated conditions of their release, Jordan said.
