Alex Brummer got the night off to a roaring start for the Panthers (2-0 SOC) with a pin at 160 pounds, and was joined in the fall category by teammates Jon Lang (215), Brian Heinrich (275), Matt Cornish (103), Jerry DeBoer (125), Chris Helman (140) and Travis Harvey (145). "These guys have taken a lot of hard knocks the last couple years," said South head coach Ken Thompson, "so it’s kinda fun to come over here and put a Crater-like score on someone like we did." Thompson said South’s top effort in the dominant dual may actually have come in a loss, with Juan Aguilar bumping up a weight and giving the Pelicans’ Sergio Jefferson a run before succumbing 6-4 in overtime. "Juan wrestled him really well," said Thompson. "Juan was really the aggressor in overtime and was trying to take Sergio down but just got a little out of position and was taken down." Rogue River slowly pulled away for the double-digit victory by using a patient offense to find good looks against Weed’s zone defense. Spencer Frantz dished out nine assists and hauled in six rebounds for the Chieftains (3-2). Jaclyn Unruh, a 5-foot-10 senior post, paced Phoenix with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Tolga Tokman, Lance Abott and Brandon Fennell each scored two individual victories to lead the North boys to an 87-84 win, while Lakin Rigby and Stephanie Cendejas had two individual wins apiece to lead the Tornado girls to a 130-42 team triumph.
